Eastport Man Charged With DWI After Trying To Run Vehicle Off Road: PD

He was also driving with a suspended license, police say.

EASTPORT, NY — An Eastport man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he tried to run another vehicle off the road Friday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at about 10:48 p.m. when officers saw a driver operating erratically and then attempting to run another vehicle off the roadway on

Montauk Highway near East Pond Lane in Eastport.

The driver, who had a suspended license, was also seen committing a series of other vehicle and traffic violations, police said.

A patrol officer initiated a traffic stop and William Castillo-Castro, 25, was arrested and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor; reckless driving, a misdemeanor; third-degree aggravated unlicensed driving; a misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, police said.

He was arrested and taken to Southampton Town police headquarters in Hampton Bays for processing; during transport, Castillo-Castro intentionally broke a seatbelt in the police vehicle, officials said.

He was held for morning arraignment and released on his own recognizance, police said.
