Man Found Dead After Moriches House Fire: Police

MORICHES, NY — A man was found dead after a fire in an abandoned house in Moriches Wednesday night, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, a 911 caller reported a fire at the Montauk Highway house at about 11:50 p.m. After the fire was extinguished, a man’s body was found in the house, police said.

The man’s identity and cause of death will be determined during an autopsy by personnel from the

Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

Following a preliminary investigation, detectives believe the cause of the fire to be non-criminal in nature, police said.

The Suffolk County Police Department's homicide squad and arson section detectives are investigating, police said.
