NEW YORK CITY — A storm is headed toward New York City during the second half of the week, making Friday night rainy and commuting a drag, forecasters say.

According to the National Weather Service, New Yorkers should expect intense winds during the second half of the week and then rain from Thursday night into Friday.

As much as three-quarters of an inch of rain is expected to fall in some parts, forecasters said.

National Weather Service meteorologists say strong winds could blow down tree limbs, any remaining holiday decorations, and any other unsecured objects.

New York City Department of Buildings officials said they will be performing random inspections of construction sites around the city to make sure cranes are not in use and things like scaffolding, fences, sheds, tools, and other materials are wind-proofed.

Wednesday
A 20 percent chance of showers between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 47. Windy, with gusts as high as 48 miles per hour.

Wednesday night
Mostly clear, with a low around 23 degrees. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Wind will decrease from around 28 mph to 21 mph after midnight.

Thursday

Sunny, with a high near 37. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Wind will blow up to 13 mph.

Thursday night
A 40 percent chance of rain, mainly after 4 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a temperature rising to around 39 by 4 a.m. Wind will blow up to 13 mph.

Friday

A 90 percent chance of rain, mainly after 7 a.m. Up to a half of an inch of rain is possible. High near 45. Wind will blow up to 13 mph.

Friday night

A 70 percent chance of rain before 1 a.m. Cloudy with a low around 35. As much as a quarter of an inch of rain is possible.
