'Pokémon Go' Player Robbed Inside Central Park, Police Say

Saturday was a particularly busy day for robberies in Central Park.

CENTRAL PARK, NY — Playing "Pokémon Go" can make you a target, too.

A 21-year-old man playing the ultra-popular mobile game in Central Park was robbed of his wallet and iPhone Saturday evening, police said.

The victim said he was playing "Pokémon Go" in the park near the Andrew Haswell Green Bench in the northeast corner of the park when he was approached by two men claiming to have a gun and demanding money, police said. The pair made off with the victim's wallet, iPhone and cell phone charger.

The NYPD tracked the man's cell phone to 106th Street between Lexington and Third avenues, where two suspects were arrested at White Playground in East Harlem at 7:36 p.m. No gun was found.

Camacho Navla, 18, of no certain address, and Bryan Matz, 37, of Kew Gardens, Queens, were each charged with first degree robbery.

The robbery was one of three in Central Park on Saturday, where robberies are down 60 percent in 2016. In one incident, a man was robbed while riding his bike home through the park, in the same vicinity as the "Pokémon Go" player was robbed.

NYPD CompStat numbers show there had been just six robberies in Central Park for the entirety of 2016 through July 10.
