Thunderstorms Flood Central Park On Sunday Night; More Rain Forecast

After storms drenched Manhattan on Sunday night, more rain is forecast.

CENTRAL PARK, NY – Exactly 2.43 inches of rain had fallen in Central Park as of 10:45 p.m. on Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Authorities advised New Yorkers to avoid the 86th Street Traverse, which flooded.

The total pales in comparison to reports across the tri-state area, where rain gauges recorded staggering amounts of precipitation: 9 inches in Newtown, CT, and 9.4 inches in Stony Brook, New York.

More storms are forecast on Monday, but precipitation should be lighter: less than a tenth of an inch, according to NWS, although higher totals are possible in thunderstorms.
