MOUNT KISCO, NY — A Westchester hospital has again been recognized for its fastidious approach to an increasingly common medical procedure.

Northern Westchester Hospital's Orthopedic and Spine Institute earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification, one year after receiving its initial certification after demonstrating continuous compliance with the commission’s performance standards. It also reflects NWH’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

The certification, which was offered through collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, focuses on pre-surgical orthopedic consultations to intraoperative, hospitalization or ambulatory surgical center admissions, rehabilitation activities, and follow-up visits with orthopedic surgeons.

"It is an honor to be recognized for our top-notch care, but we’ve been treating hip and knee replacements using cutting-edge technology, coupled with the latest rehabilitation programs for years," said Dr. Joel Buchalter, director of joint replacement surgery at the Orthopedic and Spine Institute. "Patients receive the same level of high-quality care they find at specialty hospitals in big metropolitan cities. After years of pain and inactivity they are back to the physical activities they love doing and playing with their grandchildren without pain and usually within a few short months."
