1Oak Patron Robbed By Fake Cops, NYPD Says

A woman leaving the trendy 1Oak club in Chelsea was robbed by three men, two of whom posed as fake cops, police said.

CHELSEA, NY — A woman leaving the high-end 1Oak club in Chelsea was robbed of her purse last month and then stopped from retrieving it by two men posing as police officers, authorities said.

The 20-year-old woman was leaving the trendy club, located at 453 W. 17th St., on Nov. 18 at 4:30 a.m. when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her purse, the NYPD said in a statement. The purse contained the woman's wallet with credit cards and cash.

The woman chased the robber for about two blocks before two different men approached her and displayed a silver shield, telling the 20-year-old they were police offices, according to the NYPD. While the fake police officers were talking to the woman, the man with her purse was able to escape, authorities said.

Police are searching for all three men and are asking the public to help identify and locate them. Police released surveillance footage of the men on Tuesday afternoon.
