Center for Jewish History Marks 80th Anniversary of Anne Frank’s Death

Will Explore Evolving Legacy in Both History and Memory

To commemorate the eightieth anniversary of Anne Frank’s death in 1945, the Center for Jewish History is sponsoring Anne Frank in History and Memory, a series of public history events that explore the evolving legacy of Anne Frank and the Holocaust in both history and memory.

Anne Frank in History and Memory brings together historians, journalists, public intellectuals, writers, and artists in conversation about Anne Frank’s complex historical significance. The discussions will delve into Anne Frank’s cultural resonance, including her role as both a paradigmatic symbol of Jewish victimization in the Holocaust and a universal symbol of human resilience in the face of adversity.

“In reflecting on Anne Frank’s legacy, we recognize how her story continues to shape our understanding of history and human rights,” said Dr. Gavriel Rosenfeld, President of the Center for Jewish History. “Through these discussions and film screenings, we hope to foster a deeper engagement with the ways in which her memory has been interpreted and reinterpreted over time.”
