Chelsea Major Crimes Down 30% Over Nov. '22: NYPD Data
November 2023 saw crimes drop 30 on average compared to the same month last year in Chelsea, police said.
CHELSEA, NY — Crime is on the decline in Chelsea, according to new data released by the NYPD.
In Chelsea’s 10th precinct, crooks and killers are about 30 percent less busy on average, according to NYPD statistics.
The latest metrics reflect the citywide trend of slightly falling crime.

In New York City, major crimes fell 4.24 percent compared to the same month last year. In Chelsea, 23 major crimes reported this time last year dropped to 16 incidents in November 2023.
Murders, hate crimes, and shootings remained the same year over year with zero reported incidents for each crime type; burglaries (three reported in November) and transit crimes (one reported in November) also plateaued.

Felony assault (one reported in November) dropped by 75%, grand larceny (eight reported) dropped by 33% and rapes (zero reported) dropped by 100%.
Robberies, however, increased by 100% (four reported in November) and petit larcenies increased by 9% (12 reported).
On the whole, the continued decline in crime statistics in New York City could be a promising sign during a time when crime is still up compared to recent history.
Data shows major felonies are still up by 32 percent over two years ago, and by 13.8 percent compared to 10 years ago.
Despite the recent increases since the pandemic, reported crime is still lower for Chelsea when compared to the late Giuliani administration. In 2022, reported crime was down by more than 22 percent compared to 2001 levels.
