Chelsea Park To Close For A Year As Part Of City Plan

Chelsea's Clement Clarke Moore Park will close for a year under the city's plans to update the green space.

CHELSEA, NY — Chelsea's Clarke Moore Park will close for at least a year while the city renovates the neighborhood green space, according to a plan presented by the city on Friday.

The popular local park, located at the intersection of 10th Avenue and W 22nd Street, will be getting new spray shower features as well as more seating and new picnic tables, according to the city's parks department.

Steve Simon, the department's Manhattan chief of staff, discussed the city's plans at a community meeting last week. The news was first reported by DNA Info on Friday. Simon said there was no feasible way to update the park without shutting it down for a full year.

"We were asked to consider doing this as a multi-phase construction project," Simon said, according to DNA Info. "That would drive up the cost significantly and bust our budget, so it’s not something we’re going to be able to do."
