80-Year-Old Woman Dies After Chelsea Crash, Police Say
The woman died nearly a month after being hit by a truck, police said.
CHELSEA, NY — An 80-year-old woman died from her injuries nearly a month after a truck careened into her on a Chelsea street, police said.
Maureen Meloy was walking along Seventh Avenue to her Chelsea home on W. 20th on Oct. 3 at about 10:38 a.m. when a box truck made a swift turn from Seventh Avenue onto W. 16th Street and struck the elderly woman in the crosswalk, a police spokesman said.
Meloy suffered head trauma and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. After a more than three week fight for her life, she succumbed to her injuries on Oct. 25.

The driver of the 2006 Hino Box truck that struck Meloy remained on the scene, police said.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
