'Explosion' in Chelsea Was Blown Out Truck Tire: FDNY
Witnesses were frightened after they heard a loud explosion-like noise.

CHELSEA, MANHATTAN — After some witnesses reported a "loud noise," like an explosion, on 23rd Street and 8th Avenue, the FDNY confirmed it was just a blown out truck tire.

Around a dozen firetrucks surrounded the intersection around 11:15 p.m., videos show. The FDNY evaluated the scene at 11:20 p.m., the FDNY spokesperson told Patch.

The call came in to the FDNY at around 11:10 p.m. of a "loud noise," the spokesperson said.
