FIT Fire Causes Elevated Carbon Monoxide Levels In Campus Building
A fire broke out in the basement of a nine-story FIT building on Wednesday, authorities said.

CHELSEA, NY — Smoke from a fire at the Fashion Institute of Technology campus sickened at least seven people after elevated carbon monoxide levels were found in the building, authorities said.
The basement fire left Seventh Avenue packed with fire trucks Wednesday. The blaze started in the nine story building at West 27th Street and Seventh Avenue shortly after 9 a.m., the FDNY said.
The fire was out before 10:30 a.m., but the excess amounts of smoke the fire produced caused elevated carbon monoxide levels in the building, according to the FDNY. At least part of the building was evacuated while authorities monitored the carbon monoxide levels, and seven people were being evaluated for minor injuries, a spokesman told Patch. Six of those people were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, authorities said.
