CHELSEA, NY — A gunman struck a man in the head with a gun after robbing him of more than $500 in Chelsea on Monday, according to the NYPD.

Two men were chatting outside of an apartment building on West 25th Street near Ninth Avenue Monday about 7:45 p.m., police said.

Police said they walked one block over to West 26th Street and Ninth Avenue, when one man threatened the other with a gun and demanded cash.

The man, 54, gave the gunman $530, who then struck him in the head with the weapon, police said.

Emergency medical personnel took the man to Lenox Hill Hospital for head swelling, police said.

Surveillance images released by the NYPD show the man wearing a blue T-shirt, blue jeans, a light-colored backpack and a black cap.
