Hudson Yards Construction Worker Falls 10 Stories To His Death, Officials Say
Roger Vail, a construction worker at the massive Hudson Yards development, died after falling at a construction site on Monday night.

CHELSEA, NY — A Hudson Yards construction worker fell 10 stories to his death on Monday night, according to police.
Roger Vail, 62, fell from the 16th floor of the Chelsea building and plummeted to the sixth floor, the NYPD said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The city completely shut down the construction site, issuing a full stop work order that faulted the site, at 400 W 33rd St., for "site conditions endangering workers," according to city records. The order said that Vail "was allowed in an area which presented a fall hazard" without being given a life line and harness, "resulting in death."

Vail worked for 50 States Engineering, an engineering and surveying company, and was reportedly on site surveying the building elevation. The planned skyscraper at 400 W 33rd St. is part of the massive Hudson Yards development, an expansive plan to create an entire new neighborhood of skyscrapers and other buildings along the West Side of Manhattan. The ongoing construction at the Manhattan West site is being led by Tishman Construction.
"We are deeply saddened by this terrible tragedy, and we are actively working with all revevant agencies to investigate the matter," a spokesman for Tishman Construction said in a statement. "There are no further details at this time."
