Michelle Obama Comes To Union Square Barnes & Noble Friday

Former first lady Michelle Obama will visit the Barnes & Noble Friday for her only NYC signing of her new memoir.

CHELSEA, NY — Former first lady Michelle Obama is visiting the Union Square Barnes & Noble Friday for the only New York City book signing of her autobiography.

The memoir, "Becoming," chronicles her Chicago roots and time in the White House, and has already topped best sellers lists with more than 1.4 million copies sold in all formats during the first seven days since the book hit shelves on Nov. 13, according to publisher Penguin Random House.

As part of her national book signing tour, the former first lady is visiting the Union Square Barnes & Noble at 33 E. 17th St. at 11:30 a.m. — her only stop in the city before continuing on to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Barnes & Noble said Wednesday.

The book seller recently announced that "Becoming" had "the biggest first-week sales of any book this year." Until November, that distinction belonged to Bob Woodward's dissection of President Donald Trump's administration, "Fear," which was released in September, according to Barnes & Noble.

In fact, the memoir had "the best first-week sales of an adult book since [Harper Lee's] 'Go Set a Watchman' published in July, 2015," according to the bookseller.

The first 500 customers who purchase a copy at the Union Square Barnes & Noble the day before the signing on Thursday will receive wristbands to mark the occasion.

Union Square Barnes & Noble at 33 E. 17th St. is open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
