NYC SoulCycle Studio Sued Over 'Earsplitting' Noise

Residents of a Chelsea condo board say instructors "scream encouragement" during cycling classes at SoulCycle.

CHELSEA, NY — Residents of a tony Chelsea condominium are suing a local SoulCycle studio over what they describe as "earsplitting" noise in a new lawsuit.

The Chelsea location of the trendy cycling spot was slapped with a lawsuit this month from its neighbors at 32 W. 18th Street. Residents of the condominium board at the building filed suit accusing the exercise haven of "operating an illegal fitness center and causing a grossly disruptive nuisance to the residents" of the building.

SoulCycle classes are "set to earsplitting music and featuring screams of encouragement by instructors that can be heard on residential floors," the residents said in their lawsuit. The lawsuit claims that the noise during a class causes "thudding and banging sounds made by the class participants, which residents describe as sounding 'like bowling balls rolling'."

The lawsuit also accuses SoulCycle of operating without the proper permits and of after-hours construction noise.

Residents are asking the studio, which opened in October, to address the noise levels coming from the studio, among other complaints.
