Sleeping Subway Rider Slashed On E Train, Police Say

The man was attacked as he rode an E train through Chelsea on Saturday morning, police said.

CHELSEA, NY — A subway rider who fell asleep on a train was attacked by another commuter early on Saturday morning, police said.

A 33-year-old man had fallen asleep a southbound E train as it rode through Chelsea on Saturday, police said. Another man approached him as he was sleeping and stabbed him in the neck with an unknown object at about 5 a.m., an NYPD spokesman told Patch. The New York Post was first to report on the attack.

The attack appeared to be unprovoked, and the subway slasher didn't take anything from the 33-year-old after wounding him, police said. The slasher ran from the train after it pulled into the next station at 14th Street and Eighth Avenue.
