Sleeping Woman Raped In Her Chelsea Apartment: NYPD

The woman initially thought her boyfriend was having sex with her and then realized a stranger was violating her, police said.

CHELSEA, NY — A sleeping woman was raped inside her Chelsea apartment Tuesday, police said.

The 25-year-old victim told police she was sleeping in her W. 14th Street apartment near Seventh Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. during the attack. At first, the woman thought her boyfriend had slipped into her bed and was having sex with her, but then she realized a stranger was violating her, police said.

The man fled the apartment when the victim woke up. He may have entered through an unlocked door, police said. The victim was taken to Lenox Health Greenwich Village Hospital for treatment.

Authorities describe the man as about 25-years-old, five-foot-ten, 150 pounds with a medium complexion.

The NYPD's Special Victim's Unit is investigating the incident.
