The Standard Hotel In Chelsea Wants You To Keep Calling Congress

The trendy Standard hotel in Chelsea wants you to use their new phone booth to give your representative a piece of your mind.

CHELSEA, NY — The Standard hotel really wants you to call your U.S. representatives and voice your opinions.

That's why the trendy hotel in the Meatpacking District is setting up a new phone booth meant specifically to allow passers-by to call Congress and tell their representatives how they feel about a certain issue.

The boutique hotel, located near the High Line, set up the phone booth on Thursday. Inside, the phone will automatically dial the U.S. Capitol switchboard when you lift the receiver. The phone booth, which is located on 13th Street and is available for anyone to use, also comes with a sample script to help guide you through sending a message for your representative. We want to encourage our guests, our staff, and the public to make their voices heard on the issues that matter to them," a Standard spokesperson said in a statement. "Whether that be health care, the environment, immigration, LGBTQ rights, or education, #RingYourRep is a way for us to provide a public and in-room platform to encourage positive, productive activism."

In addition to the phone booth in Chelsea, which is open to the public, guests at any of the Standard's five hotels have in-room dialing to the U.S. Capitol switchboard. The Standard also has hotels in the East Village, California and Florida.
