Transgender Woman Dies After Suffering Head Injuries In Chelsea, Police Say
She was taken to the hospital last week and died of her injuries Thursday.

CHELSEA, MANHATTAN — A transgender woman has died after police found her suffering from head trauma on Seventh Avenue near 29th Street in Chelsea, authorities said.
Police found the woman around 10:30 p.m. the night of Tuesday, April 25, outside of the Five Guys restaurant near that intersection, police said. She was "unconscious and unresponsive" with "apparent head trauma," police said, and she was rushed to Bellevue Hospital.
She died of her injuries Thursday afternoon, police said.

No arrests have been made in her death and an investigation is ongoing. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Council Member Corey Johnson, who represents Chelsea, called for a thorough investigation into the woman's death.

"I am saddened and angered to learn that a transgender woman who was found by paramedics with head injuries in Chelsea has passed away," he said in a statement. "If criminality is involved, all resources must be deployed to apprehend the person or persons responsible. There must be zero tolerance for acts of violence, particularly against transgender individuals, who are disproportionately targeted by hate crimes and discrimination."
