Two Robbers Flee Chelsea Shop With $4,800 Gold, Alligator Watch

Police are searching for two men who robbed a Chelsea antique shop after posing as buyers for the pricey watch, police said.

CHELSEA, NY — Two men with expensive taste robbed a Chelsea antique store Sunday after feigning interest in buying a 14 karat gold and alligator Rolex, police said Monday.

The robbers, both in their 40s with possible European accents, walked into Showplace Antique + Design Center on W. 25th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues at 11 a.m. and haggled with a clerk over the lavish watch with an alligator band, black dial and and a 14 karat gold face, authorities said.

The men went back and forth with the clerk over price, even putting down an $100 deposit, before the robbers fled with swanky wrist watch. An employee who had been dealing with the men stepped away for a moment, when they returned to the display case, the Rolex and the men were gone, police said.
