Costumed Dogs Parade Through Gurwin Jewish Nursing Center in Commack
2nd annual event brought smiles, memories, and "pup cups" to the Commack facility.
COMMACK, N.Y. — Residents at the Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Commack were treated to an afternoon of furry fun as staff members and their pets participated in the facility's second annual Dog Costume Parade.
The event, held in the Simon Rainbow Room, featured a variety of costumed canines — including a lion, a cowboy, a vampire and a “jailbird” — all strutting their stuff down a makeshift runway. Residents cheered from the sidelines, shared stories about their own pets and posed for photos with the four-legged participants.
"We were thrilled to host our dog parade once again for our residents," said Nicole Hopper, Gurwin's chief therapeutic recreation officer. "It brings so much joy to everyone involved. Pet therapy is incredibly beneficial, and we're proud to make it a regular part of our recreation programs."

After the parade, the dogs enjoyed "pup cups" while residents mingled with the pets and their
owners.
"The dog costume parade brought back nice memories for me,” said resident Ken Johnson. "Watching them all dressed up reminds me of my two German Shepherds. I look forward to Gurwin's dog parade each year."
