Have You Noticed The Rectangular White Boxes In The Libraries, Stores And Town Hall
They are collection boxes for Trex composite decking. Sustainably produced from recycled materials including a mix of industrial wood scrap
and polyethylene (PE) plastic film. The film is sourced from grocery/shopping bags, sandwich bags, case overwrap, newspaper sleeves, bubble wrap, bread bags and more. The Trex Plastic Film Recycling Challenge is now in its 16th year.
Trex offers a contest with prizes for top participating schools. In 2023 Twelve schools from across the country were awarded more than $50,000 in prizes and a bench from Trex made of composite material. Five hundred and twenty schools recycled 323,586 pounds of plastic films for the 2021-22 challenge. For the 2022-23 school year, students collected a combined total of over 420,000 pounds of polyethylene plastic film – nearly 100,000 pounds more than the 2021-22 challenge.
For our local residents recycling these plastic films reduces the trash stream for Covanta e.g. Reword which serves both Huntington and Smithtown towns/.https://nextrex.com/view/recyc...
