Man Killed, Another Seriously Injured In Commack Crash: Police

A 99-year-old Wyandanch man died and another man was seriously hurt after two vehicles collided at a busy Commack intersection, police say.

A man was killed, and another was seriously injured in a crash at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Highway and Apple Lane in Commack on Monday, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said Alexandre Paul, 67, of Wyandanch, was driving a 2002 Honda Odyssey heading east on Veterans Memorial Highway when he tried to turn left onto Apple Lane around 4:40 p.m. His vehicle was struck by a 2016 National Grid Freightliner truck heading west.

A passenger in the Honda, Joseph Dor, 99, of Wyandanch, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office, police said.

Paul was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip with serious injuries, police said. The Freightliner driver, Dennis Worsdale, 22, of Lindenhurst, was not hurt.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check, police said. The National Grid truck was inspected and released at the scene.
