4th Annual Drug Overdose Awareness Day Vigil To Take Place In Suffolk
National Drug Overdose Awareness Day on Thursday, Aug. 31.
DEER PARK, NY — The Deer Park community will come together on Thursday to honor loved ones taken from them due to drugs.
The Deer Park Drug Prevention Coalition, together with Sen. Monica R. Martinez, will host the 4th annual National Drug Overdose Awareness Day on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Geiger Park.
The event will kick off with a rally to raise awareness of the severity of the opioid crisis and conclude with a candlelight vigil that will honor the lives lost due to it.

Guest speakers include: Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone; Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer; Suffolk County Health Commissioner Gregson Pigott; Deputy County Executive Vanessa Baird-Streeter; and Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donelly.
The public is also encouraged to bring photos of loved ones taken from them due to the drug disorder epidemic. Resources and counselors will be available to the public on site.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the day is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose.
