Dad Drove Drunk With Child In Car And Fled Crash: Police

A Long Island man was arrested after driving while intoxicated with a child and fleeing the scene of a crash, Suffolk police say.

WEST BABYLON, NY — A West Babylon man was arrested after driving while intoxicated with a child in his vehicle and fleeing the scene of a car crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist Sunday, Suffolk County said.

Robert Graganella, 43, was driving a 2011 Nissan Murano with his 7-year-old son eastbound on Route 109 at Straight Path when his vehicle rear-ended a 2015 Yamaha R3 motorcycle, operated by Braelynn Holley, around 2:22 a.m., police said.

Graganella fled the scene in his vehicle and was located by police shortly after returning to his home on Brook St., police said.

Graganella was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger less than 15 years old, driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday, police said.

Holley, 23, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries, while Graganella’s son was not injured and released to a family member, police said.
