DPFD Helps to Send Girl on Trip of A Lifetime
The local 13-year-old gets a farewell to remember with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Christy, a 13-year-old from Deer Park, is about to embark on an adventure of a lifetime.
The local girl underwent a heart transplant this year and will soon take off on the Disney cruise of her dreams thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. On Friday, Dec. 14, Christy will get a sendoff celebration fit for a queen with the help of the Deer Park Fire Department, Make-A-Wish and the Macy's Believe campaign.
Each year, the Deer Park Fire Department helps in collecting letters for the Macy's Believe Campaign, which invites children to mail letters to Santa using Macy’s red Santa Mail letterboxes. For every letter mailed, Macy’s donates $1, up to $1 million, to Make-A-Wish. The fire department also invites a Make-A-Child to ride on the firetruck during the holiday parade. However, this year will be extra special for Christy.

Not only will she get her wish, but she will also get a red carpet sendoff at the Macy's in Huntington, escorted by the members of the Deer Park Fire Department.
In celebration of Macy's National Believe Day on Dec. 14, Make-A-Wish will grant extra wishes across the country to create a day of “Wishes Across America” for children with life-threatening medical conditions. In addition to Christy’s wish in Suffolk County, more than 60 wishes will be granted in states across the country.
