Deer Park High School Students Help Vets for Holidays

Members of the Patriot Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions club provided holiday gift bags to homeless veterans in Yaphank.

Two Deer Park High School student groups joined forces to help veterans over the holidays, according to a school news release.

Members of Deer Park High School’s newly formed Patriot Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions club provided holiday gift bags for homeless veterans at the Veterans Place in Yaphank, a former motel that was converted to a shelter by Suffolk County United Veterans, the release states.

Twenty-four vets received an assortment of toiletries, an American flag and letters, as well as teddy bears that were hand-made by Patricia Skjoldahl’s classes at the district’s Robert Frost Middle School, according to the release.

The Patriot Club was created this school year to acknowledge the efforts of military, fire and police personnel and the commendable job they do in serving the nation, the release states.
