Deer Park's Serra Makes Meals For Veterans

Frost Middle School student, National Junior Honor Society bring 150 sandwiches to VA Center.

In recognition of Veterans Day, Jack Serra, an eighth grader at Deer Park’s Robert Frost Middle School, solicited donations to make meals for local veterans at the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

With the help of members of the school’s National Junior Honor Society, as well as two teachers, veteran John Heeg and NJHS adviser Seth Margolin, they made about 150 sandwiches that were delivered on the evening of Nov. 10 to veterans at the Salvation Army Northport Veterans residence. Each veteran received two sandwiches, chips, a donut and a drink.

“This was a great experience for me,” Serra said. “I’m glad I got to share it with some of my friends.”
