Deer Park's Varsity Basketball Team Honored For Spectacular Season

Deer Park High School's varsity boys basketball team was honored by the Suffolk Boys Basketball Coaches Association.

DEER PARK, NY — The Deer Park High School Falcons, the school's varsity boys basketball team, had an amazing 2023-2024 season.

The Falcons won 14 games, made the playoffs for the 14th year in a row, reached their 13th Elite Eight since 2006 and reached their ninth Suffolk County Final Four since 2012.

To honor the Falcons for their hard work, the boys were celebrated at the Suffolk Boys Basketball Coaches Association (SCBCA) brunch at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook on April 14.

During the ceremony, the SCBCA honored freshman Ethan Nelson, junior DiMaunt’e Gardner, senior Ryan Rose and volunteer assistant coach, Mike Chin.

Nelson was voted All-League, All-Conference, Class AA All-Tournament team and League 3 Rookie of the Year; Gardner was named All-League and Academic All-County; Rose was named Class AA All-Tournament team; and Coach Chin received the Mackwich/Moran award for his service as a volunteer.

According to a school rep, the Falcons don't plan to back down next season, with 10 lettermen returning and reinforcements coming from a competitive junior varsity team and a Robert Frost Middle School team that went 8-2.
