Driver With Baby In Car Accused Of DWI On Southern State Parkway

A DWI enforcement sweep was conducted over Easter weekend.

DEER PARK, NY — New York State police report conducting a DWI enforcement sweep over Easter weekend.

Among the 24 arrests was one at 11:45 p.m. March 30. State police said they stopped a vehicle on the Southern State Parkway eastbound near exit 39. The driver, Kaina Suruj, 26, was found to be intoxicated while traveling with one child in the vehicle under 1 year old.

The Coram resident was charged with Driving While Intoxicated 1st offense (Unclassified Misdemeanor), Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with Child 1st offense, Leandra’s Law (E Felony), Endangering the welfare of a child (A Misdemeanor), along with traffic infractions.
