Hometown Hero: NYPF Officer Honored With Heroism Award
NYPD Officer Robert Garvey who apprehended a man who stabbed and killed 3 people in Manhattan has been named a hero by Babylon officials.
BABYLON, NY — Baylon resident and NYPD officer Robert Garvey is officially a hometown hero.
Babylon officials presented Garvey with their "highest honor," the town's Heroism Award last week for his crucial role in the arrest of a man who fatally stabbed three people to death in Manhattan in 2024.
On Nov. 18, 2024, three people were stabbed to death in a series of random attacks in New York City and Officer Garvey arrested the killer, Ramon Rivera, near 46th Street and 1st Avenue, not long after the third stabbing.

In a statement announcing the award, town officials wrote: "Officer Garvey, of Babylon, exemplified true heroism when he courageously apprehended a dangerous individual responsible for the tragic loss of three innocent lives.
"Faced with an armed suspect and a situation fraught with peril, Officer Garvey put his own safety on the line in a relentless effort to protect others.

"His selfless acts remind us of the critical role dedicated first responders play in our communities. The thought of a world without brave heroes like Officer Garvey is truly alarming.
