Illegal Cannabis, Nitrous Sales Prompt Officials To Close LI Store

Authorities closed a Long Island convenience store for illegally selling marijuana, flavored vapes, hemp, and nitrous oxide, officials say.

BABYLON, NY — The Town of Babylon shut down a Deer Park convenience store after it was busted for illegally selling marijuana, flavored vapes, hemp, and nitrous oxide, according to town officials.

Officials said the Babylon Town Attorney’s Office Investigative Unit and the Town's building inspector shut down Kaw's Convenience at 852 Long Island Ave. in Deer Park on Thursday after receiving numerous complaints from the community.

"Kaw's was illegally selling marijuana, flavored vapes, hemp, and nitrous oxide. Unregulated marijuana poses a serious health threat to users when one doesn’t know if it could be laced with fentanyl or other dangerous substances.

"We obtained a search warrant and police found flavored vapes meant to be sold to minors, pre-packaged marijuana, pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes, and homemade flavored packaged nicotine products.

"Unregulated products are extremely dangerous as many of these flavored vapes are made overseas with no health regulations."
