DEER PARK, NY — The "incredible legacy" of a beloved Long Island community member will live on thanks to a street renaming on Long Island.

Barbara Mangano, a Deer Park community member known for her dedication to helping others, was honored with the unveiling of Barbara Mangano Memorial Way along Deer Park Avenue.

Mangano's family, along with Suffolk officials including Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman Anthony Manetta and Legislator Tom Donnelly, gathered in April to celebrate the renaming.

Officials called Mangano, Suffolk County's first licensed female funeral director, a "true pioneer in her field" and a "pillar of compassion, strength and service."

According to officials, Mangano supported veterans and children’s charities and gave generously to churches, civic organizations, and local causes.
