N. Babylon's Leonardo Fernandes Makes Impact in MLS Pre-Season

The former Stony Brook Seawolf was selected in the fourth round of the MLS Draft.

Former North Babylon and Stony Brook University soccer standout Leonardo Fernandes made an impact in one of his first games for his Major League Soccer team, the Philadelphia Union.

Fernandes scored a game-tying goal against the Orlando City Soccer Club in his first appearance during the MLS pre-season, helping lead the team to a 1-1 tie.

Fernandes was selected in the fourth round of the MLS Supplemental Draft. He was a starter for the Stony Brook Seawolves in all four years at the Long Island university, leading the team in goals, assists and shots during the 2012 season. He led the America East in game-winning goals and was a member of the Top Drawer National Team of the Week.

"I coached Leonardo when he was a young player. He always showed determination and passion on the field", said Flavio Ferri, the Rough Riders vice-president. "We wish him great success at the professional level."
