North Babylon Elementary Students Help Sick Children

Students at North Babylon’s Marion G. Vedder Elementary School took part in the PTA-sponsored Share-a-Story Night. With the theme of “Home Is Where Your Heart Is,” each student returned to the school with their parents and siblings wearing their comfiest pajamas with their favorite stuffed animal at their side. To participate in the program, they also brought along a new, unwrapped toy that would be donated to Good Samaritan Hospital or the John Theissen Children’s Foundation.

Gathering together as a large group in the school’s auditorium, the students and their parents enjoyed David Rubel’s “The Carpenter’s Gift,” as read by retired kindergarten teacher Cheryl Babirad. Following the group read-a-loud, students broke off into small groups to work on their listening skills as teacher-volunteers read fan-favorite holiday children’s books. To end the night, everyone gathered in the cafeteria to share their favorite moments of the night and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies.

“This event is one of our favorite functions from throughout the year. It’s a great evening for students and parents,” said Tara Foran, PTA member and co-chair of the Share-a-Story Night committee. Angela Piteris co-chaired the committee with Foran.
