Tanker Truck Explodes, Bursts Into Flames On LI: FD

Firefighters extinguished a blaze that fully engulfed a tanker truck that exploded early Tuesday morning.

DEER PARK, NY — A gas tanker truck exploded and burst into flames on early Tuesday morning, Deer Park firefighters told Patch.

According to police, a 911 call reported the truck engulfed in flames at 273 Skidmore Road around 2:25 a.m.

Firefighters said that under the command of First Assistant Chief Ken Rios, crews "managed the situation effectively."

"The tanker was fully engulfed in flames, with the rear of the vehicle severely damaged and debris spread over the area," a firefighter told Patch. "Thanks to the quick actions of the crews of 1-4-6 and 1-4-11 and the dedication of our volunteers, the incident was brought under control, ensuring the safety of our community."

Numerous Deer Park residents reported being woken up by a loud "boom" when the truck exploded.

Police said Arson Squad detectives determined the cause of the fire to be non-criminal and no injuries were injuries were reported.
