Toddler, 2, Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle At Belmont Lake State Park On LI: Police

The child died after being hit at Belmont State Park, police say.

NORTH BABYLON, NY — A 2-year-old child died after being struck by a car at Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon on Sunday, police said.

According to New York State Police, the crash took place at about 2:43 p.m. in the north parking lot.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident immediately contacted 911 and remained at the scene to cooperate fully with investigators, police said.

"Following a thorough investigation, state police have determined that there is no criminality involved in this tragic event," police said. "We are deeply saddened to confirm that the child succumbed to their injuries. Out of respect for the family and due to the sensitive nature of the incident, as well as the age of the victim, no further details will be released at this time."
