Town Approves $22 Million in Bonds for Sandy Repairs
Babylon council members unanimously agree to reconstruct parks and marinas.
The Babylon Town Board unanimously voted on Tuesday to approve a resolution to issue $22,540,000 in bonds for the reconstruction of town parks and marinas damaged by superstorm Sandy.
Damaged areas include Venetian Shores Park, Tanner Park, Cedar Beach Gold Course, Overlook Beach Park, Cedar Beach Marina, Gilgo Beach Marina, Cedar Beach Park and Phelps Lane Pool.
Babylon's Town beaches sustained severe damage from Hurricane Sandy, Supervisor Rich Schaffer said in an interview days after the storm.

"Gilgo beach pretty much doesn’t exist anymore. It's pretty much washed away," he said.
Ventian Shores, Tanner Park Marina and Cedar Beach Marina also took the harshest beatings, he said.

The repairs included in the 15-year bond comprise reconstruction of parking lots, sidewalks, buildings, basketball courts, tennis courts, playing fields, boardwalks, bulkheads, piers, sprinkler systems, fencing, playgrounds, spray parks, equipment fixtures, beach replenishment and landscaping.
