Two Escape Dix Hills House Fire

Nearly 70 firefighters from Dix Hills, Deer Park, Greenlawn and Melville fire departments battled the blaze.

A man and woman managed to escape an early morning fire in the basement of their Dix Hills home Monday, authorities said.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to the fire on Seaman Neck Road at 12:10 a.m. The residents escaped the smoky blaze unharmed, officials said.

The fire broke out in the basement of the one-story home, officials said.

About 70 firefighters from Dix Hills, Deer Park, Greenlawn and Melville FD’s aggressively battled the blaze with 10 trucks. The Dix Hills Rescue Squad had several ambulances and a rehabilitation unit on the scene for EMS support. The Huntington Manor and Greenlawn fire departments provided a standby engine and ambulance at Dix Hills headquarters.

The fire was brought under control in about 1-1/2 hours, under the direction of Dix Hills Fire Chief Robert Fling and Assistant Chiefs Tom Napolitano and Joe Williamson, officials said.

PSEG was requested to the scene to shut power and disconnect a burning electrical service line, according to officials.

The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and the Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire. Suffolk County Fire-Rescue Coordinators were also on the scene assisting.
