West Babylon FD Hosts Volunteer Firefighter Recruiting Event

Attendees can learn how to train to become a firefighter or emergency medical technician at events across Long Island and New York State.

WEST BABYLON, NY — The West Babylon Fire Department is inviting new members to join the crew and will be opening its doors to recruit new volunteer firefighters this weekend.

West Babylon FD will be one of many across New York State hosting Recruit NY, a statewide initiative raising awareness about the need for volunteers and to inspire community members to serve as volunteer firefighters as fire departments face decreased membership and increased call volume.

West Babylon's open house will take place on Sunday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to 3rd Assistant Chief Ryan Fischer, the fire department will hold the open houses at all three West Babylon stations on Arnold Avenue, Herzel Boulevard and Great East Neck Road.

Recruit NY offers residents the opportunity to learn how they can become a firefighter or emergency medical technician.

Throughout the day, the fire department will conduct tours of the station and apparatus, allow visitors to try on gear, demonstrate firefighting activities and provide information on becoming a member.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend, including families with children.
