The fire department was honored for its "dedication to advancements within EMS throughout 2023," according to fire department officials.

While covering its seven-square-mile district that provides care to one of the largest number of assisted living facilities, nursing homes and urgent cares within the county, crews responded to over 4,000 fire and EMS incidents in 2022 and 2023.

The same years, West Babylon members also resuscitated three cardiac arrest patients that eventually made full recoveries, officials said.

One of those patients was a West Babylon member, who suffered a heart attack while battling a working structure fire. He recovered, and "is still riding the fire apparatus" officials said.

The West Babylon Fire Department was founded in 1947 and is a New York State Advanced Life Support ambulance service with a fleet of three certified ambulances and two certified first responder vehicles.

The agency is comprised of both volunteer providers and district EMS, including mole than 90 emergency medical technicians from all certifications including EMTs, EMT-CCs and paramedics.
