Wyandanch Library Custodian Pleads Guilty To Rape Charges: DA
A $30 million lawsuit was filled against the library after a former custodian pleaded guilty to raping a 16-year-old, reports say.
WYANDANCH, NY — A $30 million lawsuit was filed against the Wyandanch Public Library on Friday, after a former custodian pleaded guilty to charges of raping a 16-year-old at work, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said.
Kwaisi McCorvey, 51, pleaded guilty to third-degree rape endangering the welfare of a child on Thursday, officials said.
He is currently on one year of interim probation.

If he does not violate his probation, the charge of endangering the welfare of a child will stand and the charge of rape will be dismissed, said Shannon Wilson, director of communications for the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.
If McCorvey is unsuccessful with his probation, both charges will stand, and he faces up to one and a half to three years in prison, and will have to register as a sex offender.

He pleaded guilty in front of Judge Karen M. Wilutis in Riverhead, officials said.
The case is not on again until next year, Sept. 13, 2024.
Attorney Monte Chandler, who is representing the minor, announced the suit on Friday, claiming that the library's Board of Trustees knew about the rape.
The lawsuit calls for their resignation.
The attorney also said his client felt "relieved" about McCorvey's guilty plea, but that it was the "least he could have done" after his actions.
"This is the most taxing emotional circumstance for her. The PTSD is outrageous," Chandler said. "I have not had one conversation with her where she does not cry."
Patch reached out to Greg Kalmar, McCorvey's attorney, for comment.
The Wyandanch Public Library declined to comment about the lawsuit.
