A Weekend in Ditmas Park: a Health Fair, Cats and Raptors

- P.S. 249, also known as the Caton School, is hosting a health fair Saturday from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The fair will take place in the school yard, or the gym if the weather does not cooperate.
New York Life will be present to take picture identification cards for children. CAMBA will be present, as well as blood pressure services and other insurance companies.

- Neighborhood Cats will be hosting a workshop at the Cortelyou Library Saturday from 12:30-4 p.m. to discuss how to trap, neuter and return a cat to its area. Known as TNR, it is the "most humane and effective method available to end the severe feral cat overpopulation crisis faced by this country.”
All workshop attendees will become TNR certified, and residents of New York will gain access to low cost spay/neuter, free traps and equipment as well as expert guidance and assistance.

- On Sunday, learn all there is to know about raptors at Raptor Fest in Prospect Park. Hawks, falcons, owls and other birds of prey will be on hand for flight demonstrations. The event, presented in partnership with the Urban Park Rangers and the Prospect Park Alliance, will begin at 12 p.m.
From 12-1:30 p.m. will be a bird of prey viewing and a question and answer session at the ranger information booths. From 12:30-1 p.m. a music and puppet performance by Living Things will be held at the Audubon Center.
From 1-4 p.m., bird of prey crafts and activities will be held at the Audubon Center, including owl pellet dissection, hawk masks, hawk watch and button making.
At 1:30 p.m. at 2:30 p.m., there will be a live raptor flight demonstration by Talons!
The event is free and open to the public.
