A Staycation in Brooklyn: DeKoven Suites B&B

While Ditmas Park is home to many bed and breakfasts, DeKoven Suites is one of the neighborhood's oldest and most well-established b&b's.  

"We've been open for 12 years," said owner Sue Lehrer, who opened her home to guests after a neighbor began running a bed and breakfast of her own.

"It's the most rewarding [thing because] people are filling my home with happy times because they're on vacation," she said. "It's also night to help out the community."

The b&b, located at 30 DeKoven Court, sits on a dead-end street that also features fellow bed and breakfast , a fact that speaks to Lehrer's opinion that the neighborhood will soon be considered the "b&b district of New York." 

"It's not yet, but it will be," said Lehrer. "I encourage a lot of people to start [operating a b&b]. It brings attention to Victorian Flatbush and also protects the area by making the historic areas a lot more valuable."
