Assemblywoman Jacobs Discusses Ditmas Park

The incumbent Assemblywoman is seeking reelection to represent the 42nd District.

Representing the 42nd District since 1982, Assemblywoman Rhoda Jacobs has been doing her job for quite some time.

A job that, at times, can be quite challenging as the district is an extremely diverse one. "There is a great disparity and great range of income [in the district]," Jacobs said.

When it comes to addressing the needs of Ditmas Park in particular, however, she feels she understands and meets their needs sufficiently. "They zone-in on environmental issues, up-keep and maintenance. Like a village, they come together," she said.

"There's a higher level of philosophy of education," she said. "[They're] interested in the quality of education, interested in what happens with teachers." 

Work on improving the quality of education is far from over, Jacobs said, noting that her actions in an election year such as this is no different than any other year, with the exception of the additional efforts to inform the community that there is in fact an election.

"[I] personally and privately send out emails saying you have to vote, to remind to people to come out," she said. "Since this is a redistricting year, we have to work extra hard because [there are] new areas."

In addition to appealing to constituents that may not be as familiar with her policies, Jacobs is also being challenged by .

Jacobs noted that her history as an assemblywoman and years of experience will help her come out on top. "There are limitations to experience, but experience matters," she said. "It takes a while before you know anything, and seniority helps." 

"You do right by these people and community and they remain loyal," Jacobs said.
