Caton School Gets Gold at Wellness Ceremony, Drummers Perform
Caton School African Drummers performed during the ceremony where they also received the highest honor.
The Caton School, otherwise known as P.S. 249, was honored with the gold 2012 Excellence in School Wellness Award at Borough Hall Tuesday.
The school received the highest honors for its efforts to nurture and promote proper nutrition, physical activity and overall school wellness.
Children from the Caton School also performed an African drum number at the ceremony in collaboration iwth Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy.

Three additional Brooklyn public schools received the same honor, including Samuel C. Barnes Elementary School, P.S. 89 Cypress Hills Community School and P.S. 86K The Irvington School.
“While most obesity prevention conversation hinges on bans, taxes or the blame game, the kids who have found a way to stay fit in schools that lack funding for obesity prevention need more attention," said Javier Lopez, Director of the NYC Strategic Alliance for Health in a statement.
