CB 14 Wraps Up Session with Last Meeting of Season
Highlights of CB 14's last meeting before they break for the summer.

Community Board 14 held it's last meeting Monday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. before breaking for summer. Many points were discussed and concluded for the session, and here are some of the highlights you should know.
- Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz is giving away tickets to Brooklyn Cyclones games for groups of 15-20 people. To find out more information or indicate your interest in attending a game, contact CB 14 District Manager Shawn Campbell at info@cb14brooklyn.com.
- Markowitz' office is also sponsoring a day of fitness at Brooklyn Borough Hall on July 19. The program, entitled "Lighten Up," will include healthy food and exercise and will take place form 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
- The Sears Roebuck & Co. Department Store in Flatbush by the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
- The artwork project at the Avenue H train station is expected to be completed by the end of June, however, the ribbon cutting ceremony is likely to take place in the fall.
- A mandatory Community Board orientation workshop for new members will be held on June 27. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Topics that will be addressed include how to vote, zoning procedures and how to address conflicts of interest.
- Community Board 14's Joint Educational, Libraries & Cultural Affairs and Public Safety Committee held a meeting last month to discuss internet safety, specifically how to keep young people safe in cyberspace.Those who attended found the meeting very informative and passed along tips to the general Board.
"We have to be involved with our children, our grandchildren, our nieces, our nephews," said Board member Gail Smith. "It's important for us to get involved."
Joseph Dweck agreed with Smith and noted parents should have their children make them a Facebook page and teach them the common practices.

- A meeting will be held at Brooklyn College on June 13 to discuss select bus service changes, specifically changes to the B44 route. While no changes will be made south of the Flatbush Nostrand Junction, northbound buses will no longer cross New York Avenue. Instead it will take Rogers Avenue.
- A Youth Services meeting will be held June 14 at the Board's office. The committee will discuss youth services in the community as well as review the youth services portion of the Board's budget.
