Here are the top stories in Ditmas Park-Flatbush today:
- The Public Advocate's office just released the official list of the city's "worst landlords" in 2021. As usual, NYCHA takes the first prize, but lots of other Flatbush and Ditmas Park landlords made the list–including Michael Niamonitakis and David Schorr. The list is determined based on the number of open Housing and Preservation Development (HPD) violations a building has received. Look at an interactive map of the whole city here. (BK Reader)
- Flatbush's own Brooklyn College topped the charts this year for increasing the upward socio-economic mobility of its student body, according to a study. The CUNY College ranked 9 out of 1,549 four-year institutions nationwide. (Brooklyn Eagle)
- Mayor-elect Eric Adams had planned to hold his inauguration inside the historic Kings Theater in Flatbush. But with the sudden rise in COVID cases across the city his team isn't so sure about those plans anymore. Some experts think that his decision to go ahead with the event as planned, or to hold it outdoors or virtually, would set a precedent for his approach to the pandemic more broadly–how will he balance "reopening" the city with public health and safety?
